Solution to the Two Squares on a Triangle Puzzle

Two Squares on a Triangle

Two squares sit on the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle. What’s the angle?

Solution by Angle in a Semi-Circle, Angle at the Circumference is Half the Angle at the Centre

Two squares on a triangle labelled

With the points labelled as above, point OO is the midpoint of BDB D so the circle centred on OO which passes through BB also passes through AA and DD. Since the angle in a semi-circle is 90 90^\circ and angle DC^BD \hat{C} B is 90 90^\circ, the circle also passes through CC. Then angle AO^BA \hat{O} B is 90 90^\circ so since the angle at the circumference is half the angle at the centre, angle AC^BA \hat{C} B is 45 45^\circ.
