Two Semi-Circles Inside a Rectangle

What fraction of the rectangle is shaded?

Solution by Circle Geometry

Two semi-circles inside a rectangle labelled

With the points labelled as in the above diagram, quadrilaterals CDEFC D E F and ABCFA B C F are kites, so DCD C and CFC F have the same length, as to BCB C and CFC F. Therefore, BCB C and DCD C have the same length. The area of the white triangle is therefore one quarter of the area of the rectangle and so 34\frac{3}{4} of the rectangle is shaded.
