Solution to the Three Regular Hexagons IV Puzzle

Three Regular Hexagons IV

Three regular hexagons. What’s the angle?

Solution by Angles in Parallel Lines, Angles in a Regular Hexagon, Isosceles Triangles, and Congruent Triangles

Three regular hexagons iv labelled

In the above diagram, line segment DED E is parallel to line segment BAB A and of the same length, so that ABDEA B D E is a parallelogram.

Triangles DEFD E F and BCFB C F are then congruent and are related by a rotation of angle 120 120^\circ about point FF. Therefore, angle BF^DB \hat{F} D is 120 120^\circ and triangle BFDB F D is isosceles. This means that angle DB^FD \hat{B} F is 30 30^\circ.

Since cointerior angles in parallel lines add up to 180 180^\circ, angle BG^EB \hat{G} E is therefore 150 150^\circ.
